Diocesan Arms Oban - Cathedral Church of St John the Divine

St John's Choir and Organ

St John's has a mixed amateur choir of 16-20 persons who lead the congregational singing on 50 Sundays of the year. The choir's contribution also includes singing canticle settings and anthems. Settings of the Eucharist are normally congregational - Merbecke, Martin Shaw, The Mass of St Thomas and The Oban Service - although occasionally the choir sings Mass settings (e.g. Palestrina and Mozart). The organist and choirmaster is Norman Nicholson.

With its central position in the town and its fine Bechstein piano, the Cathedral is used frequently for recitals and concerts.

The organ was built by Ahlborn Organs U.K. in 1994 and uses the Bradford Computing System.
